Last year I went to Zakopane in the Polish Tatra mountains. What I learned, was that a hike in the mountais is nothing like a hike somwhere else, and some preparation is neccessary. This not only refers to getting proper hiking maps but also getting tickets for the calbe car in time, if you plan to use it for the way back. Well, I didn't and seeing the 300m queue at the cable car station decided to walk down to the base on foot. While this offered some more nice views, and I did see a real fox in a real forrest my knees weren't that happy about the detour in the end.
