This has to be my favorite photo of myself from 2007. It was taken by Moni close to La Défense subway station while we were on a study trip in Paris. On this trip we were tasked with capturing the topic of urban lonelieness in audiovisual form. In order to achieve this we were roaming the big city all day, to find adequate imagery and/or sounds. And while we took a ton of photos, in my mind the most striking sign of loneliness we encountered were the plentiful homeless peolpe who were loudly talking to themselves. We dind't record anything like that, though. It wouldn't be right to record someone wihtout their consent - especially someone who possibly is in a bad place psychologically. The professor who initiated this trip was Barbara Becker, a media socioligist who's work on language and identity left a lasting impact on me.
